Available on staging. These instructions describe Message Hub in the staging environment.
Before you start
You need access to Message Hub and a real Gmail or Google Workspace mailbox. For service-account authentication, a Workspace administrator must enable the Gmail API and authorize the service account for Gmail read and send access. Keep the downloaded JSON key private.
A Google Group is not a Gmail mailbox. If support@example.com is a group delivering mail to agent@example.com, connect agent@example.com and filter for messages addressed to the group. Connecting the receiving mailbox does not automatically configure replies to send as the group.
Connect your mailbox
- Open Messages → Settings → Mailboxes.
- Click + Add mailbox and select Gmail / Google Workspace.
- Enter the real mailbox address and sender name.
- Leave Default store automatic to match through orders, or select a fallback store for mail with no order number.
- Select your authentication method. For a Workspace service account, paste the complete downloaded JSON key. Expand the Google Workspace setup checklist for the required authorization scopes.
- Choose Import history: the last 1, 3, 7, 14, or 30 days, followed by new mail.
- Set an optional import filter, then click Add mailbox.
- Click Test, then Check now. Review the connection status and return to the inbox.
Import only mail addressed to support
For a support group delivering into another mailbox, use this filter, replacing the example address with your own:
to:support@example.com -in:sent -in:drafts
To include either of two support addresses:
{to:support@example.com to:help@example.com} -in:sent -in:drafts
Leaving the filter blank imports incoming mail in the selected period. Gmail excludes spam and trash by default, and sent messages and drafts are excluded from this import.
Change the settings later
Click Edit beside a mailbox. You can change its address, display name, fallback store, filter, or import-history period. Leave credentials blank to retain the saved key. Changing the history period starts a fresh check of that period; already imported messages are deduplicated.
You may connect multiple mailboxes. A separate mailbox per marketplace is optional.
Troubleshooting
- Google rejects access: confirm the connected address is a real Workspace user, the service-account key is valid, and an administrator authorized the required scopes.
- Stored credentials could not be read: contact your Inventory Ahead administrator. Repeatedly deleting and adding the mailbox will not repair server encryption configuration.
- Test succeeds but no messages appear: check the recipient filter and history period, then use Check now.
- Replying as a support group: receiving group mail does not establish a send-as identity. Verify the reply address and marketplace requirements before sending.
